Thank you for supporting me, and if you're new around here, welcome to Wrathos! I hope you'll stay awhile <3
“To those who understand a woman’s silence is her fury, and that a fictional character’s death is as painful as reality, but you’re not only willing to endure both Fury and Death — You came here searching for them. Let us burn together.
Lastly, to the pieces of myself left between the pages, may you rest in peace.”
— “For Blood and Flame” by Jinapher J. Hoffman
It is unreal to be saying this, but Wrathos Book reached 2,500 subscribers this week! Hello everyone and welcome to my epic fantasy multiverse of feminine rage, Wrathos. My name is Jinapher J. Hoffman, and I’m so glad you found me.
Every Sunday, I deliver a newsletter called The Weekly Wrath, which usually dives into upcoming releases. There are a couple of other emails I send throughout the week, such as the Tuesday general fantasy discussion, but this last week was a bit quiet since I’m traveling for a funeral. Thank you to anyone who sent me virtual hugs. You’re all so amazing, truly.
I also want to thank you for taking the time to join the waitlist for For Blood and Flame, which is the upcoming direct sequel to For Mist and Tar and the 5th book in Wrathos. I know that’s why a lot of you are here, so I figured today’s newsletter would purely focus on the Alchemight Duology.
By joining the waitlist, you opted into the Wrathos Books fandom. If you haven’t taken a moment to familiarize yourself with Wrathos, then I invite you to visit the below guide. It includes reading order, a brief breakdown of the multiverse, and a little bit about me as an author.
But what’s new with For Blood and Flame? Today I will be answering a few frequently asked questions and giving a small progress update.
FAQ & Progress Update: For Blood and Flame
Is this a standalone? No. For Blood and Flame is the direct sequel (continuation of) For Mist and Tar. It will conclude my Alchemight Duology with only a three-week ‘flash forward’ after the events of For Mist and Tar.
Why is it the 5th book in the reading order? For Blood and Flame builds upon lore first introduced in the Fates of Mirror trilogy (Veil of Fate, Heir of Fate, Wars of Fate). There are also a few subtle cameos in For Blood and Flame that will go unnoticed if you haven’t read the separate trilogy. It’s recommended you read the Fates of Mirror trilogy before For Blood and Flame, but if it’s not for you, then at the very least make sure you’ve read For Mist and Tar or you will be very, very confused.
Where will For Blood and Flame be available? Paperbacks will be available with both Amazon and Barnes and Nobles. However, eBooks and stamped hardcovers will only be available through Amazon. Preorders will be opening in the next couple of weeks!
When will For Blood and Flame be released? At the latest, May 14th, 2024. However, I’m running a marketing campaign right now where if we reach 15,000 Wrathos Books free subscribers before then, I will release the book early.
If you’re looking for a way to help boost Wrathos Books (and get a free upgrade to a paid subscription, which includes bonus spice, bonus lore, and behind-the-scenes, then maybe consider referring some bookish/dark fantasy friends. You can click here to visit the leaderboard and copy your unique referral link.
Are you doing ARCs? Yes! The ARC application has been open for a few weeks now but will be closing at the end of March. It is required you’re completely caught up in Wrathos to receive an ARC (read both For Mist and Tar and the Fates of Mirror trilogy). You can learn more about the process in this article.
Is the Alchemight Duology suitable for YA? The Alchemight Duology is adult, grimdark epic fantasy. I do not recommend it for young adults. If you visit the shop page, each of my books has content warnings laid out so you can make your choice as to whether they’re suitable for you.
Will For Blood and Flame be as dark as For Mist and Tar? No. It will be far, FAR darker. I cannot stress this enough. I know dedications and content warnings may only be seen as marketing materials these days, but I wrote them because of how dark this book is. A couple weeks ago I published this post on what you can expect from For Blood and Flame.
What is grimdark fantasy? Essentially, it’s fantasy with some kind of root in reality. Most often it’s a tragic root, but there are different factions of grimdark. For the Alchemight Duology, the roots are in mental health (specifically PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addiction) and the toll of starvation, power corruption, and war.
Next on my to-do list is to make the final edits on For Blood and Flame and start the formatting design. I already drafted a layout of the book I think is really beautiful. I just have to plug it all in and make sure it fits. After it’s formatted, I will be able to upload the paperback proof and open preorders!
We are getting super close. Pretty much, For Blood and Flame is at a point where I’m just topping it with a bow. All that’s left is the ‘make it pretty’ stuff like refitting the cover and formatting.
Visionaries, please note I will send ARC acceptances mid-April at the latest! Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you. I just wanted to give everyone ample time to catch up on the reading order so they could apply if they wanted to.
That’s it for today’s update. As always, know the comment section is open on The Weekly Wrath to all subscribers. If you ever have questions, then please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m more than happy to get back to you! Just note I may be slow to respond because of out-of-state travel.
See you on Tuesday for a new fantasy discussion! And if you haven’t gotten a chance to take the following brief survey, I’d love your input on how to better Wrathos books:
Always,
Jinapher J. Hoffman
