"Veil of Fate" Hits Number 1 in Folklore
Today is a day of celebration! My Fates of Mirror Trilogy, including "Veil of Fate", "Heir of Fate", and "Wars of Fate", is trending on BookTok and Bookstagram.
There will be 2 polls in this newsletter. Please take a moment to answer both within the next 72 hours before they close <3
Did you know Veil of Fate started as a Kindle Vella series nearly 3 years ago?
Maybe some of you are from the Kindle Vella era (drop a comment at the bottom of this post because I want to see you OGs shine), or maybe some of you are just now jumping into my Fates of Mirror trilogy.
It’s incredible for me to see a book that’s three years old still perform STRONG in the Kindle charts, and in the last week, Veil of Fate has consistently been in the Top 4 of Folklore and the Top 100 of both Romantic Fantasy and Fairytale Fantasy. Since yesterday, she’s sat at Number 1 in Folklore on Amazon.
This is a massive win for Wrathos. The more readers that join Wrathos Books, the more likely I can continue to publish within my multiverse of feminine rage.
Zora Vyner is our Queen of Fate. She’s a badass, lethal mercenary, and she leads a romance-focused trilogy. If you came to Wrathos Books from For Mist and Tar or For Blood and Flame, then you should know that my Fates of Mirror trilogy is the exact opposite of my Alchemight duology, featuring:
low fantasy worldbuilding
lots of romance tropes like ‘who did this to you’; ‘touch her and you die’; ‘touch him and you die’; one horse; one cave; fight to the death trials where he saves her, etc…
my spiciest books (but they’re not smut; just have some spice and specifically in books two and three)
my trademark flawed and frustrating characters that have A LOT of evolving to do (which is cool because they’re characters whose arcs will continue in new series within the multiverse)
In honor of Veil of Fate hitting number one, and Zora being such an integral piece of Wrathos, my multiverse, I have spent over 100 hours creating brand new covers, which the trilogy desperately needed.
These covers are on a trial run via eBook ONLY right now. I’m not sure if the paperbacks will be updated yet, but if you would like the current paperback covers, consider grabbing them soon.
Beautiful NEW Fates of Mirror Covers
Tap the photos to enlarge them and take a look! They will appear cut off in gallery mode. I am so proud of these covers. If you don’t know, I make all my covers myself. Veil of Fate in particular has had many renditions. Part of this is my evolution as a cover designer. The other side is the evolution of the multiverse and my general understanding of the publishing industry’s trends for cover design.

I’m annoyed a bit because my video recording cut off in the middle of making VOF (*screams in technology malfunctions*), so I only have a tiny bit of my creating the cover recorded, which you can view below! The video is at 100x speed.
The previous covers were a mix of stock photo blending and my slight illustrative skills in Procreate. I didn’t have access to photoshop, and (in my opinion) it led to the covers looking a bit messy with layering. They’re still beautiful, but I knew I could do better with the proper tools when I could afford them.
These new covers were created fully in Photoshop using a mix of stock photos, illustrative techniques, and 3D model manipulation. They’re much clearer, cleaner, and the color scheme is FINALLY the one I’ve always wanted.
With Zora being the Queen of Fate and Starlight, I wanted to play around with grays, blues, and soft golds. I also wanted to keep the integrity of the very first visuals from the very first book covers (anyone own those clipart copies? bless you).
In every version of these covers:
Veil of Fate has always included a heart of some kind. This time, I went subtle with a soft heart on the dagger.
Heir of Fate has always included a skull. This time I wanted the skull to really pop.
Wars of Fate has always included a crown and daggers or swords. Since Zora’s more of a dagger girl, I went dagger on the new one and wanted an ethereal quality to the crown.
Each cover includes starlight and chains, two pieces of imagery I felt fit the dark romantasy nature of the books.
What’s Next For Fates of Mirror?
With the publication of For Blood and Flame in May, I will be officially revisiting Zora’s story and asking myself some big questions.
This trilogy has been the most popular of my books. Many of you loved Zora and Cristen’s story, and the most common request I hear is: “I wish there was more.”
More worldbuilding. More spice. More character backstory. Just more.
And now we’re all sweating, and you’re probably thinking, Jinapher, where are you going with this?
The truth is, I’ve thought about a Fates expansion for over a year now. I always put it on the back burner, because the trilogy performs decently as it is and I want to move on to new projects.
That said, with For Blood and Flame concluding the Alchemight duology in May, if there’s ever a time to expand Fates, it’s before I start something brand new.
I can’t deny I also wish I’d spent more time on it. As I said, it was originally published through Kindle Vella. Being a serialized story called for it to be a quick, snappy read, which has its benefits (yay, pacing!) but also pitfalls when it comes to development.
But here’s the thing: I’m only going to do this if YOU want it. I would love to dive in again and expand the world and flesh out the side characters and magic. I would love to add more monsters to those bride trials and make it our ‘dream’ romantasy come true.
IF we do this, I will more than likely publish the updated chapters to Wrathos Books as I write them, allowing you to comment and let me know what you think/what you want more of. That means, during revisions, this trilogy would no longer be able to be in Kindle Unlimited due to Amazon’s exclusivity contract.
I will, of course, add it back to KU when revisions are complete.
Note: an expansion will simply dive into Mirror further and possibly add spice and more backstory to characters via some cool scenes, but it will not change the overall plot of the books.
Okay, I’m going to stop trying to hype it up and let you vote.
